The second official album by Cricket! The green one and the angsty one. "The tone of this album was originally going to be much less hopeful than it ended up. It was going to be about loss, depression, anxiety, and feeling like the bad times are never going to end. I wanted it to be haunting and uncomfortable. Obviously, that didn’t happen. As my mental state got better, I spent more time with the people I love, and I stopped complaining about everything all the time I realized that whining about my problems doesn’t make me feel better. Venting didn't make me feel better. Action and effort made me feel better (that's not to say venting frustrations is a bad coping mechanism. Everyone is different and needs different things at their lowest points). I didn’t want to make some sad emo album that any depressed loser could make. I didn’t want to put into the world all the pain and suffering I’ve been bottling up for years. I wanted to scream to whoever is listening that I WILL be okay no matter how fucking long it takes.
Originally, Lucky Cricket was called “It’s Only Getting Worse” and for half of these songs I think that name still fits. When shit sucks, it’s okay to curl up and recover for a while, but eventually you need to put your foot back on the gas. I’m extremely lucky to have had the support system I had throughout 2022 and 2023. It was the worst years of my life, and without my wonderful friends and family, I don’t know what I would have done. If you’re reading this, you know who you are, and I’m so lucky to have you in my life. I’m lucky that I made it out of my dark spiral, and I’m lucky that the songs I wrote during these dark times resonate so much with so many of you." - Cricket on the themes of Lucky Cricket
